On March 21st 2015, the final event of the Norwegian Ultimate series was played at a newly opened Hønefoss Arena. The seven Ultimate beings from OSI were eager to get started and fired ahead from the very first pull.
Game 1: Fighting against Ekeberg, OSI held its fellow Oslo team to a tie 3-3 from the onset. With few drops and with each team winning every single offensive play, it was a tight and good game. Eventually, however, the more experienced Ekeberg team pulled ahead, ending with a 10-6 win.
Game 2: Facing this tournament’s pick-up team, OSI had an extra challenge: three of their own. With Eirik, Jon and Arja on the other team, the pick-up team beat us with what in the end turned out to be the largest defeat of ours in the tournament measured in points: 11-5. The game was, in many ways, our least amazing performance. With a proper and thorough debrief session, however, we forged ahead into our final group-match against Trondheim, the soon-to-be champions of the Series.
Game 3: With an astonishing 3-1 lead early on, we almost scared the socks off the Trondheimers. They kept both their socks and shows on, appropriately, and slowly gained control of the match. The final score of 11-7, show some of the potential of the Ultimate beings from the capital.
Game 4: The tightest game of our tournament was against Pancake. We followed each other all the way up to 6-6 and 7-6. And when Michael, our beloved wild card with a potentially explosive hammer hammered in 7-7 in the final minutes, our hopes were lit. It ended, however, with a Pancakian victory. Still, the Ultimate beings from t, jhe city of Oslo had given their neighbours a fight till the end, worthy of celebration.
Game 5: The last game was—if we chose to take points as the measure of victory and defeat—our sole example of the former. The Wizards from Åosz gave us a good fight. We kept them a couple of points behind, however, by bombarding them with spells in the form of long throws from our end zone into their. We won the game 11 to 7.
Overall, the Ultimate beings from OSI ended the tournament in seventh place. In the series as a whole, OSI ended fourth. The accomplishments of the day was celebrated firstly with all-you-can-eat pizza, and secondly with ambitious and at time almost elegant dancing at the local Juvelen.
Technically, the OSI team played a great tournament! We had clear structures and we knew each other well. We were therefore able to do well the things we knew. We scared some of the best teams in the tournament, and we got confidence and flow in our play.
While we against Ekeberg and the pick-up team didn’t keep the pressure up throughout the game, against Trondheim, and most importantly against Pancake, we stood our ground and fought till the end. At this year’s Fire and Ice we showed our potential, and we forge ahead to the Norwegian Championships in April with renewed hope and ambitions for hard Ds and easy layouts!
