BRainy disk 2015

In the last weekend of February it was time for the annual BrainyDisc tournament in Bergen. OSI was well represented with nine players and we even had a team manager (Peter who, due to a broken wrist at the desembercup, was unfortunately unable to play)! There were in total ten teams participating, so the tournament was spread out over two days.

The first day, which consisted of the group matches, took place in two different halls. We competed in Fantofthallen against BSI 2, our big brother Ekeberg Sendeplateklub, Trondheim Frisbeeklub and NHHI 2. Due to a serious injury in the game which was played before us, we started our first match a couple of minutes later. It took us some time before we really got started, but then we got it working and we ended the match with a 7-3 win. This gave us some confidence which we would really need in the next game against Ekeberg. All of us had played a lot with those players very well, so we knew it would be a hard game, but we also knew that we were not without chance. In the beginning we gave a couple of easy points away, so we made it very hard for ourselves. Eventually the score was 5-9 in favour of Ekeberg. The third game of the day we played against Trondheim Frisbeeklub. This team also consisted of very experienced players. We tried as hard as we could and even scored the first point of the match, but it didn't matter and eventually Trondheim had an easy win: 11-3. The last match we played against NHHI 2, a team from the local handelshøyskole which only participates in the Brainy disc tournament. We discussed some tactics and played a zone-defence on them. This worked really well and we managed to end the match with a very good result: an 11-3 win. This made us number 3 of the group, a result most of us were satisfied with.

The next day we had to compete for the places 5-8. We played our first match at 10.30 against the pick-up team. Due to the good party the night before this didn’t went as well as we hoped for. The play wasn’t great but the catching was disastrous: we gave away a lot of turn-overs and didn’t manage to score enough points. Eventually we lost the match with 2-10. This meant that we had to play against BSI 2 one more time for places 7-8. We have won against this team the day before, so we should be able to repeat that once again. Luckily the two hours of rest were enough to properly wake us up. With a solid play we ended the game with an 8-3 win, which put us in the seventh place.
